Cecily’s Fund Sponsored Walk
News posted: 29-11-2008
13E and Mrs Kershaw took up the challenge presented by the charity ‘Cecily’s Fund’ to walk the distance between Lusaka in Zambia and Oxford where the charity is based. This is the latest in a series of events the form has undertaken to try to make a difference to the lives of Zambian children orphaned by AIDS by helping them go to school. It takes only £25 to educate a child for a year there. The charity was set up in memory of a girl called Cecily Eastwood, who died in Zambia whilst working there on a gap year. Six students walked four laps of Hollingworth Lake in very wintry weather and near freezing temperatures. This made up a combined distance of seventy miles to go towards the goal of 10,000 miles to be walked in 2008, the charity’s tenth anniversary year. Several hundred pounds were raised for this excellent cause and the students enjoyed the well earned break from their studies. For more information on Cecily’s Fund: http://www.cecilysfund.org
