Charity Basketball Match
News posted: 25-01-2010
My form, 13F, hosted a charity basketball match between staff and students to raise money for breast cancer research yesterday. What started off as a fun event soon became seriously competitive with all members involved giving their full efforts. It was a fast paced match and staff soon began to tire with age, letting the youngsters run away with the lead with a final score of 11:26 staff: students; a well deserved win. The student team were made up of volunteers from yr13: Captained by Jake Kerrison who demonstrated fantastic dribbling skills, often running the full length of the pitch dodging all teachers in his path! Bradley Norcross showed strengths in shooting as did Owen Charnley who scored many baskets for his team. Tom Chapman impressed all with his long distance goal. Rachel Esker enjoyed taking part and Hannah Beard and Hannah Foy were good at creating rebounds and intercepting shots. James Summers was a powerful and fast player, always on the ball and Will Sanders was great in defence. Elliot Lux made some great passes and had good speed about the court. The staff team captained by Mr Bolton, a skilful and effective player who scored many points for his team and rellished the challenge of dodging Tom Chapman on countless occasions. Mr Conroy played with speed, skill and agility. Mr Stuttard covered lots of ground as a keen defender as did Mr Goodwin. Mr McRoyall made some impressive side steps to break away with the ball on a couple of occassions. Mr Dalziel proved a powerful force on the pitch and used his height to great advantage in defence as did Mr Hesten and Mr Langdon. Mrs Newby and Mrs Sullivan gave their best efforts despite clear height disadvantages and made valuable contributions to their team!! The match was refereed by Vasudev Gorasia in YR10 who was both forceful and fair. Thankyou very much to all who participated, organised and supported the event. Total funds raised so far stands at £102.65 with some donations still to come!!
