Product Design Students Visit JCB HQ

On Monday December 15th, Mr Cotton, Mrs Newby and the Y12 & 13 Product Design Students visited the JCB Earthmovers manufacturing site at Rocester near Uttoxeter, Staffs. In a three hour visit, the students saw many of the systems and manufacturing processes necessary to turn bare metal into a JCB Backhoe (digger). This brought to life many of the heavy engineering processes which can otherwise only be seen on a DVD or in a text book. There was a lot of information to take in, but the students recall was impressive the following day and no doubt many references to the visit will be made during AS/A2 lessons in the coming months.
