The first of our three enterprise groups turned their Year 3 classroom into a very successful fruit and smoothie cafe this week.

Laura, Amelia, Sumayyah, Katie and Abbey called their business 'Freya's Fruit and Smooth Smoothies'.

The whole class had previously carried out a survey in years 4,5 & 6 to find out the most popular flavours of smoothie and fruit. This helped them to decide how much fruit to buy.

They had £10 to spend on produce, the milk and cups were kindly donated by the Domestic Bursar, Mrs Ann Gorton.

The girls were so excited on Monday morning as they had been working towards the opening of their cafe for many weeks.

The previous week, Mrs Howarth, Head of Home Economics, came over to Year 3 and explained to them the importance of hygiene when preparing food. She was very impressed with their knowledge of bacteria and cleanliness, and left them a bottle of anti-bacterial wash and kitchen cleaner to use!

Monday was very successful, they made £2 profit after taking out the cost of food. they had a group discussion to evaluate how it went and how they could perhaps improve on it for Tuesday.

Taking all this on board the group came in on Tuesday morning with new ideas to improve the service. They must have done something right because they made £14.40 profit!

Over two days, taking out all the overheads the final profit is £16.40...a very successful two days work!

May we also thank Mr Butler, Mrs Smith, Mrs Tracy and Mrs Garlick for giving up their morning to help prepare the food.

Next week another group will run their cafe whilst Ms Smith and the rest of the class go over to the library to do some research!
