Never too young to go into business!

News posted: 10-10-2009

Kate Chapman, who is responsible for marketing Oldham Hulme Grammar Schools, kindly agreed to pop in and give some useful tips to Year 3.

As part of their 'World Kitchen' theme the girls are hoping to run a successful smoothie cafe for a week. Profits will be given to charity.

Each enterprise group will have £5 to spend on ingredients, but, before they can open their cafe, they need to promote it. In our literacy lessons we have been looking at posters and adverts in magazines and newpapers. Each girl chose the advert that had the most impact and commented on each. We discussed the use of bold fonts, eye-catching pictures and the audience that the advert was being aimed at.

Armed with all this knowledge, Year 3 really put Mrs Chapman through her paces. They had their questions prepared and learnt some very interesting tips. We had a look at the advertising that our school uses and Mrs Chapman kindly brought some examples in to show us.

Mrs Chapman also gave some constructive comments on the posters that each group had designed.

May we take this opportunity to say a big 'thank you' to Mrs Chapman for giving us her valuable time, days before our Open Day!

A local businessman has promised to come in and talk to the girls in a few weeks, so watch this space!
