VE Day Celebrations!
News posted: 29-06-2009
Year 3 have been looking at World War 2 this year and thought that they would like to have a traditional street party, Main School sports field was the next best thing. The marquee was draped in bunting, trestle tables laden with food and drink, music was drifting across the field through the sound system and the sun was shining, what more could you want?
Every girl in Estcourt made an effort to dress up in wartime clothes and parents came into help with styling their hair.
Refreshments were kindly organised by Ann Gorton and her staff. We were treated to wartime fayre such as fish paste and jam sandwiches (not all together), jelly with condensed milk, cloudy lemonade and ginger beer, oh and we mustn't forget the homemade scones that Eleyna's Grandma made for us!
The girls enjoyed playing ludo, hopscotch, hoopla, wheelbarrow racing and long rope skipping. There wasn't a a gameboy or computer in sight!
It was such a successful afternoon, our special guests, Mr & Mrs Ledson had a wonderful time, they had previously come in to school to speak to Year 3 about their own wartime adventures when they were evacuated.
We think that our Victory in Estcourt afternoon may just become an annual event!
