Old Boys' Dinner Friday 4th April 2008

News posted: 08-04-2008

The 2008 Old Boys' Association Dinner was held in the main school hall on Friday 4th April 2008. There was a tremendous attendance of 174 guests, a record for recent years, including The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Ann Wingate, and her consort, over 20 lady guests and over 30 'recent' leavers (from 2006 and 2007).

Eminent sports lawyer Maurice Watkins, joint senior partner at Brabners Chaffe Street in Manchester and a long time associate of Association President Gerry Boon due to their respective work in football, was the guest speaker. Mr Watkins attended Hulme Court Preparatory school from 1949 to 1952.

The dinner saw Gerry Boon induct Dr Phil Sutherland as an honorary old boy in recognition of his 26 year teaching career at Hulme. In proposing the health of the School, Mr Boon praised the work of the Principal Paul Neeson and his management team at School. Gerry Boon also gave guests a taste of the progress the OBA is making in its initiatives to bring School and the Assocaition closer together (such as a mentoring scheme and provision of leadership/adventure course places for 6th formers); and applauded the fantastic progress made by, and excellent health of, the Association Golf Society under Neville Heginbotham.
